Sub player policy

To ensure fair play, safety, and consistency across all games, the following policy applies to all substitute players participating in the Twin Cities Queer Hockey Association (TCQHA) Winter League:

1. Registration

All substitute players must be officially registered with TCQHA before taking the ice. Registration ensures that all participants are covered under league insurance and are included in league communications.

2. Availability and Scheduling

Substitute players are required to mark their availability in advance using the designated sub-list or scheduling system. This helps captains and commissioners coordinate fair and balanced rosters for each game.

3. Payment

A $18 fee for skaters or $9 free for goalies must be paid before playing each game. Payment information and accepted methods will be shared in the sub registration form or league communications. Sub spots are not guaranteed until payment is received.

4. Jerseys

All substitute players must bring two jerseys to every game:

  •  One white jersey

  •  One dark jersey (navy, black, or similarly dark color)

This ensures teams can be quickly organized on the ice with balanced colors.

5. Subbing Up or Down

Substitute players may:

  •  Sub within their own skill level, or

  •  Sub up or down a league level but only with commissioner approval, captains will ask the commissioner, not the sub.

This helps maintain competitive balance and a positive playing experience for everyone.

6. Spirit of the Policy

This policy exists to keep games fun, fair, and safe while allowing flexibility for players and teams. TCQHA encourages all participants to communicate respectfully with captains and commissioners regarding sub opportunities.
