Penalties
Penalty options include (but are not limited to): a minor penalty (2:00), a major penalty (5:00), or a major penalty and removal from the current game (at the official’s discretion). Major penalties are considered non-releasable and will not end if either team scores a goal. Any removal from a game is subject to tournament directors’ review for removal from the tournament and no refunds will be given. Any disputes with any official will result in a minor penalty. Continued disputes will be subject to removal from the game and subject to the tournament director’s review.
Three Penalty Rule
- If a player incurs three (3) penalties in a singular game, that player will be asked to leave for the remainder of that game.
- For this rule, a minor penalty counts as one (1) penalty. A major penalty counts as two (2) penalties
Sportsmanship Rule
This is a friendly tournament, and the goal is to create a safe and inviting atmosphere for all participants. We understand that games can and may be competitive and while we do our best to place teams and players in divisions that they will find success in, we cannot guarantee that every game is a perfect match-up.
For that reason, we are introducing a sportsmanship rule that anytime a team scores a goal making the differential in score greater than a six(6)-goal lead, the team that scored will be asked to play short-handed (a minor penalty assessed). The objective of this rule is to encourage players to still find success but with that success comes the responsibility to display good sportsmanship.
For every additional goal, the team that was scored upon will have their captain select a player from the scoring team to serve this penalty. This penalty does not count towards the player’s individual penalty count.
Pool Play Games
Pool Play length of games (first two periods will be 16-minute run-time, 3rd period will be run-time for the remainder of the ice time less two (2) minutes. Each team will have a one(1) minute time out. Games in Pool Play may end in a tie.
Non-Pool Play Games
All periods in bracket play will be 13-minute stop time. Each team will have one (1) time out.
Ties for play off (non-pool play) games
At the end of the third period in bracket play, there will be a one (1) minute intermission followed by a 3:00, five-on-five (5-on-5) running time period. Penalties carry over to the overtime period.
If the score is still tied, there will be a five (5) person shoot-out. No player can shoot twice in the initial round. If the score is still tied, sudden victory shootout rounds will be played until there is a winner. No player may shoot twice until all rostered players (non-goaltenders) have shot.
